The PCO, Japanese researchers, and partners in the US Department of Defense (DoD) participated in a seminar in March 2015 that focused on new approaches to mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) studies. The seminar, organized by the US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM) International Technology Center-Pacific (ITC-PAC) and the US Army Research Laboratory (ARL) Weapons and Materials Research Directorate, featured Japanese representatives from the Division of Biomedical Information Sciences, National Defense Medical College (NDMC) Research Institute (an organization of the Ministry of Defense, Japan). The Japanese research team presented novel studies that use laser-induced shock waves to understand the pathophysiology and mechanism of blast-related mTBI.
